Spencer Shemwell’s Late Wife, Aimee, and Children

Spencer Shemwell’s first wife, Aimee, was killed in a car accident. Spencer and his wife were running errands with their children on November 13, 2017, when their family van was T-boned by a semi-truck in Front Royal, Virginia, and Aimee (age 29) died instantly.

What’s worse, Aimee was pregnant with her fifth child at the time, and the baby couldn’t be saved. Spencer and Aimee have four children: Brayden, 12, Harper, 8, Avery, 6, and Bexley, 4. (ages in 2021). They married on December 22, 2007, and were less than a month away from celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary when Aimee died.

Spencer, according to his second wife Erica, had moments when she thought he wished his late wife was here instead of her. Though it wasn’t the best thing he could have done, it did show his fans how much he missed her. And we forgive him for it.

Spencer revealed that the most difficult thing he had to do after his wife’s death was to tell his children about their mother. He remembered saying,

“Mommy has died.”

He added, with tears in his eyes,

“I thought there was no way I could ever love someone as much as Aimee.”

Jason Wright organized a $75K fundraising campaign to assist Spencer in raising his children. It had raised more than $41,000 by 2021.

The Blended Bunch’s Erica and Spencer Shemwell’s Wedding

Spencer and Erica Shemwell, stars of The Blended Bunch, met online through a widower support group. They went on their first date on November 24, 2018, after meeting at a Utah conference. After only 13 months of dating, the couple married on January 22, 2019, in Provo, Utah.

“This (marriage) had its difficulties,” Erica said of their time together. Throughout the episodes, we could see her having panic attacks and being unable to breathe. But, at the end of the day, she was glad they were able to “do this together.”

Erica brings seven children to the family, in addition to Spencer’s four, including Landon, 12, Emma, 10, Lily, 9, Sophie, 8, Tanner, 6, Amelia, 5, and Caleb, 3. (ages in 2021). She raised the children with her late husband Tony (who lost the battle to cancer).

Spencer’s brother-in-law Quinn was not pleased with Erica’s decision to take her second husband’s surname after the marriage. He told Erica,

“As your brother, I’m not sure if I would want my child to have someone else’s last name if I died.”
