Kevin Costner and his longstanding wife Christine Baumgartner Costner are ending their nearly two-decade-long marriage. On Tuesday, May 2, TMZ reported that Christine, 49, filed divorce papers citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause for the split.
In a statement released on Tuesday, a representative for the Yellowstone actor confirmed the news, stating, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action.”
The statement continued,
“We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected while they navigate this difficult time.”
Kevin Costner and Christine, who wed for the first time in 2004, have three children: Cayden Wyatt, 15, Hayes Logan, 14, and Grace Avery, 12 years of age.
The Dances with Wolves alum is also the father of three adult children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35, with his first wife Cindy Silva, and Liam, 26, with his ex-partner Bridget Rooney.
According to the report, the designer is requesting joint custody of their children but is not seeking alimony.
Tuesday, Kevin Costner filed a rejoinder through his attorney, “disso queen” Laura Wasser, requesting joint custody of the children.
According to TMZ, the Oscar winner’s response regarding spousal support stated, “Spousal support to be payable to petitioner pursuant to the terms of the parties’ Premarital Agreement,” indicating that the estranged spouses have a prenup.
Fans are already reacting to the news on Twitter, speculating if Kevin’s relationship status has anything to do with the rumors of a Season 5 delay.
As one Twitter user phrased it,
“I guess he’s going back to the Dutton Ranch.”
