Sam has 25 years of experience with ABC’s flagship shows WABC-TV and Good Morning America. He previously co-anchored AMHQ: America’s Morning Headquarters and 23.5 Degrees With Sam Champion on The Weather Channel.

He was a weather anchor for Good Morning America in 2006. His official ABC7 New York profile reads:

What can audiences expect from Sam Champion on Dancing with the Stars?

The meteorologist is currently prepared to demonstrate his lethal abilities on Dancing With the Stars alongside his good friend and professional dancer Cheryl Burke.

Even though he has never danced before, he is confident that his skills will impress the judges and the audience. Sam announced on Good Morning America that he will compete in Dancing With the Stars.

“I’ve never danced in my life, and since this is a competition, I can’t divulge the secrets of the dance moves I’ll be bringing because I don’t know them.”

Champion is competing for the Mirrorball trophy alongside Selma Blair, Jason Lewis, Shangela, Jordin Sparks, Charli D’Amelio, Cheryl Ladd, and Wayne Brady this season.

Sam had previously felt “uncomfortable” discussing himself and his sexuality, but he is now glad to be a part of the program and “coming to grips” with his genuine identity.

Asked if he will address his sexuality on Dancing With the Stars, he told Us Weekly:

“So, it’s a little bit of a story about me being a young homosexual child at a very different time in America and around the world, when it was considered shameful, and I’m going through a lot of these things where I always felt I enjoyed to dance but was always afraid to have that conversation.”

He denied Cheryl’s offer to dance years ago because he was unprepared, but the couple has now joined forces in an attempt to win the DWTS championship.

The new season of Dancing with the Stars will debut on Disney+ on September 19.
