Since Matheson’s grandpa owned a restaurant and was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, food was in his blood. He began his career at Le Sélect Bistro, where chef Rang Nguyen taught him French cooking techniques.

In 2006, Matheson started working at La Palette; by 2010, he had been promoted to executive chef of the brand-new Parts & Labour restaurant.

In Toronto, Canada, the inventive chef established Matty’s Pattys Burger Club and Prime Seafood Palace. Matheson added two more eateries during the pandemic: Matty’s Pattys in Toronto and Matty’s Meat and Three in Fort Erie.

Later, he gained notoriety as the host of Vice’s food and travel programs Dead Set on Life and It’s Suppertime. He was invited to appear on the internet program Munchies because of his upbeat and amiable personality.

Additionally, Matty made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he taught how to make a filled shell meal. In October 2018 Matheson published Matty Matheson: A Cookbook, then in 2020 he published Home Style Cookery.

In 2017, he and Alex 2Tone co-hosted the popular Powerful Truth Angels podcast, which was favorably received by listeners. He also runs Mattyfest, a culinary and music festival in Toronto, and, in partnership with Shlomo Buchler, owns stakes in two Maker Pizza locations.

Additionally, Matty has been working with designers Castor Design for a few years, with whom he founded the Matheson cookware line. Since their shared employment at the eateries Oddfellows and Parts & Labour 12 years ago, he has known the designer.

His website states that he is:

“Since he first entered the kitchen in 2003, Matty Matheson has become an internationally famous chef and television personality. The career of the chef, restaurateur, television personality, New York Times best-selling author (for his book Matty Matheson: A Cookbook), and chef is varied.”

Executive producers on the project include Melissa Stokes, Eli Holzman, and Aaron Saidman from The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), Leah Hariton, the showrunner, and Selena Gomez of July Moon Productions. The start of the next season will be available to watch on HBOMax on August 18.
