Ralph Yarl’s aunt Faith Spoonemore made an appearance on the CBS News Evening News on Monday to talk about how her nephew has been doing after the incident.

When a black teenager named Ralph opened their door and was shot twice by a homeowner in Kansas City, Missouri, protests erupted and justice is now being demanded.

Ralph Yarl, 16, was directed by his parents to go to a friend’s home on April 13 to pick up his siblings, but he ended up somewhere else.

Ralph was shot once in the head, cracking his skull and severely injuring his brain, according to the teen’s family and counsel. The homeowner then shot again, striking Yarl while he was still on the ground in the upper right arm.

Father Paul Yarl claims that his son is currently recuperating at home with his family after being discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

Ralph’s father informed the press that he was continuing to improve and that Yarl was responsive and making good progress.

Case of Ralph Yarl’s shooting

Ralph Yarl, a Black 16-year-old kid from Kansas City, Missouri, was instructed by a buddy to pick up his younger twin siblings on Thursday night, according to his family.

But instead of standing in front of a house on Northeast 115th Terrace, Yarl stepped up in front of one on Northeast 115 Street.

According to the prosecution, the white man who opened the door there shot the youngster twice—once in the head and again in the arm, after the boy fell to the ground.

Ralph was bleeding but nevertheless made it to another nearby house. Yarl was told to lie on the ground there until help was called, according to his family.

The homeowner who shot him, Andrew D. Lester, 84, was held by the police for 24 hours before being released on Friday.

On Sunday, as Stacey Graves, the police chief of Kansas City, acknowledged public dissatisfaction during a press conference, demonstrators marched in the direction of Mr. Lester’s home.

As the pressure mounted on Monday afternoon, the Police Department issued a statement confirming that it had sent the case file to the Clay County prosecutor’s office.

A few hours later, prosecutor Zachary Thompson publicly identified Mr. Lester and said that there was a racial component to the case.

Mr. Thompson said that Mr. Lester was charged with first-degree assault, a class-A felony, and faced a life term if proven guilty.

Additionally, Andrew was charged with participating in an armed criminal action, which carries a maximum 15-year prison term.
