What We Know About Greta Thunberg Parents

Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg has done more than anyone else in the world to raise awareness of climate change. Thunberg went from skipping class to protesting the effects of climate change to criticizing international leaders at the 2018 UN Climate Change Conference.

Thunberg’s fearlessness has caused her to clash with powerful individuals, most notably former US President Donald Trump. But she has persevered and keeps spreading the word about environmental protection.

Malena Ernman and Svante Thunberg, Greta’s parents, have devoted countless hours to supporting Greta’s cause in the background.

Where was Greta Thunberg born? Ethnicity, Nationality, Family

Greta and her younger sister Baeta were both reared by Malena and Svante. Malena Ernman, an opera singer, was born on November 4th, 1970. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and studied music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. In 2009, she competed for Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest.

One of Sweden’s top opera singers, Ernman is largely considered as such. She made her stage debut in La clemenza di Tito at the Salzburg Festival in 2006 as Anno. At the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, she performed La Voix by Fredrik Kempe and finished in 21st place with 33 points.

Greta’s father is a performer as well, however, he is not as well known as her mother. Svante is most known for his part in the 1997–2000 television series Skargardsdoktorn. In addition, he manages Ernman.

Greta encouraged her parents to adopt a more conscious lifestyle

Greta had to make changes at home before taking the stage on a national and international scale. She persuaded her parents to give up flying and adopt a vegan diet. Express reported that Greta said;

“In many ways, they started like everyone else. They said, “Don’t worry, humans have things under control; someone will invent something in the future.” But after I repeatedly reminded them that they were taking our future and that they could not defend human rights while leading that lifestyle, they finally made those changes.

Since then, Greta’s parents have taken a leading role in environmental protection. 2017 saw Malena honored as the environmental hero of the year by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). After WWF’s acknowledgment, Malena reportedly said the following, according to The Sun:

“As a public figure trying to offer my voice to people who are not heard over the media cacophony, that is my modest contribution to the environmental movement. There is no other topic that is more pressing or more challenging to spread.

The parents of Greta wrote a book about her illness

Before Greta rose to fame, her parents chronicled Greta’s struggles with an extreme eating disorder and an obsessive-compulsive disorder in a book. Greta’s strong awareness of the environment was complemented in the book, Scenes From the Heart. a section of the book says;

She belonged to the small group of persons who could see carbon with their unaided eyes. She observed how the wind was carrying our chimney pollutants, converting the sky into a massive, invisible landfill.

A book titled Our House Is On Fire: Scenes of a Family and a Planet in Crisis was also written by the Thunberg family. March 2020 saw the publication of the book. On GoodReads, the book’s summary mentions;

This is the tale of a family who was forced to deal with a situation they had not anticipated. Their oldest daughter, who is eleven years old, has ceased speaking and eating. Her parents gradually learn that she also has autism and selective mutism, in addition to the threat to her future in a world that is quickly heating up.

Due to the severe internet criticism, Greta had gotten, her father was concerned for her mental health.

Greta was onto the world scene and Svante accompanied her as she traveled to climate talks by ship. Greta opposes using airplanes because of their environmental impact. Svante told the BBC that Greta, not the weather, was the reason he set sail:
