On October 23, 1976, Ryan Rodney Reynolds was born in Vancouver, Canada. Himself, he has four siblings. His mother worked in retail sales, and his father, James Chester, was a wholesaler.

In British Columbia, two of his older brothers worked as police officers. He was brought up as a Roman Catholic and has Irish ancestry. The actor failed his drama class in high school.
