Madoc passed away on Friday after having to leave the pantomime Aladdin at the Princess Theatre in Torquay owing to a fall. Madoc’s spouse was the actor Philip Madoc.

On December 8, Madoc’s Instagram account published a message announcing that she had fallen earlier in the week and was unable to continue with the production.

Madoc had surgery, and the following day, at the age of 79, he passed away in the hospital.

Phil Belfield of the talent agency Belfield & Ward Ltd described her as a “special talent admired by many.”

He paid homage to her “iconic” television role as Gladys Pugh in the 1980s comedy Hi-de-Hi!, which was based at a late 1950s summer camp.

In a tribute on Instagram, screenwriter Russell T Davies praised her for being “funny, loving, salty, sharp, and charmingly uncynical.”

She was “one of those wonderful old troupers who loved the business, loved the stories, loved performing and performers,” said the It’s A Sin creator and Doctor Who writer.

Madoc was born in Norwich, where both of her parents were doctors. She spent a lot of her childhood without her parents.

She was thus brought up by her English grandpa and Welsh grandmother at Llansamlet, Swansea. Later, she attended RADA in London.
