The Colorado Rockies selected Kahnle as a pitcher in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft. Furthermore, he appeared in 54 games with a 4.19 ERA in 68 innings or more. In 2015, the Chicago White Sox acquired Yency Almonte in exchange for Kahnle. Tommy had a 2.50 ERA while there, striking out 60 batters in 36 innings and decreasing his walk rate from the previous three seasons.
