OnlyJayus (real name Isabella Avila) has about 500,000 followers on Instagram and 7.7 million TikTok followers. Jayus gained popularity by sharing psychology and interesting fact videos on TikTok. Fans who were accustomed to watching dance and lip-syncing videos on the platform were drawn to her original work.
Jayus used her capacity for humor to establish her brand, and it was successful. Although her journey hasn’t always been easy (she once had her YouTube account suspended), she has managed to carve out a successful niche for herself.

Following her termination from her sales position, she increased her TikTok following. California native Jayus launched her TikTok account in October 2018. She was a Best Buy salesperson and a student of computer engineering at the time.
Jayus is an Indonesian phrase that means “something so unfunny you can’t help but laugh,” which is why Isabella chose it for her child. Although she was successful in creating humorous content, several of her films got her into issues with her employers.
After learning that Jayus had been filming films while wearing her Best Buy uniform, the company dismissed her. She decided to live off the money she had saved while pursuing her dream of becoming a successful TikTok star. If she didn’t succeed in becoming a TikTok hit, she would merely apply for another job. In an interview with Creator Mindset, Jayus disclosed:
“I promised myself that I would go get another retail job if I didn’t make enough money from TikTok to cover the bills in one month. Fortunately, TikTok turned out to be beneficial for me. In terms of guidance on where to go and how to begin, I didn’t have any support. A lot of it was learned by trial and error, observation of what other successful individuals do, and reading web articles.
Jayus’ fan base quickly increased from 100,000 to 1,000,000. She decided to focus solely on social media since she was much happy as an online creative than she had been as a salesperson. She found it difficult to focus on school and social media because she was a full-time student of computer engineering, but she was able to do so with the support of her family.
Onlyjayus regrets not working harder on TikTok before it gained popularity
Jayus has achieved success on TikTok, but she believes that she could have achieved even greater success if she had worked harder when the app wasn’t so well-liked.
She admitted to Creator Mindset that when she first started posting on TikTok, she had no idea that she would be able to make a living off of it. She didn’t post as frequently as she could have, as a result. Jayus clarified:
“At first, I had a sporadic blogging schedule. I didn’t join TikTok to become well-known, therefore I didn’t see much benefit in trying to upload five times every day. Whenever I felt like it was… Though I believe that once I was fired at Best Buy, I kind of got myself together and made the decision to treat it more seriously.
Since the quarantine period started, Jayus has had more time to concentrate on TikTok. She admitted to Flaunt that having more free time has helped her social media business.
Before quarantine, she said,
“I was attending college and did TikTok as a side gig. When quarantine began, I viewed it as a chance to push myself as far as I could in terms of content creation. Since I have a finite amount of time to succeed as an artist, I figure why not take the chance while the school will always be there.
She is seeing a woman named Hail Lightning right now
Even though Jayus is upfront about her relationship, she hasn’t yet named her girlfriend. We only know that she uses the handle Hail Lightning on social media. On February 14, 2020, Jayus shared a collection of images and videos of the couple on Instagram with the caption:
Greetings on Valentine’s Day, @h lightning. Thank you for making me the happiest I’ve ever been by laughing at my horrible jokes, standing by me no matter what, and supporting me in everything. I cherish you.
