The Reason For Travis Fimmel’s Departure From The Vikings

Travis Fimmel

The plot and conclusion of Vikings are covered in the content. When Ragnar Lothbrok was killed off in the fourth season of Vikings, viewers were left asking, “Why did Travis Fimmel leave Vikings?”

Michael Hirst’s Vikings premiered on the History Channel in 2013. Due to the captivating narrative and explosive performance by Fimmel as Lothbrok, the program was extended to six seasons.

Lothbrok, portrayed by Fimmel, was a fan favorite as he burned and pillaged his way across the North Sea for the majority of the series. The fourth season marked the conclusion of Lothbrok’s adventure, much to the dismay of many.

As a punishment for the murder of Aelle’s brother, Aethelwulf, Ecbert and Aelle arrest Lothbrok and toss him into a pit of deadly snakes. The focus of the ensuing seasons is mostly on his sons and their adventures in England, Scandinavia, and the Mediterranean.

However, the audience was taken off guard by the departure of the central character, since they were anticipating answers to their questions.

Why did Travis Fimmel leave ‘Vikings’?

However, this was not the case with Fimmel. In many other television programs, leading actors resigned owing to artistic differences or personal reasons, but this was not the case with Fimmel.

According to the author of the series, Lothbrok’s involvement in the plot has come to an end. Since the poem was both lyrical and historical, Hirst was certain that Lothbrok would perish and his sons would take power.

According to historical records from the Middle Ages, Lothbrok ultimately met his demise; hence, Fimmel’s departure was not impromptu but always predetermined. Consequently, Fimmel was not astonished by the death of his character.

In actuality, the actor was able to remain in the series longer than was originally intended. He was meant to pass away in the first season, but his impact on the series made him irreplaceable. He also let additional characters continue the plot.

The actor told Entertainment Weekly, “I was supposed to die at the end of the first year, but I ended up living for three more.” As a result, the actor was ecstatic and glad that he could quit the program on his own terms.

Travis Fimmel’s career after ‘Vikings’

Following the conclusion of a memorable part, the Vikings actor appeared in the action film Warcraft in the same year as his final Vikings episode. He portrayed Ray Thompson in the 2017 film Lean On Pete.

The protagonist is a 15-year-old boy who travels across the United States with a sick racehorse in search of his long-lost aunt. Since then, he has appeared in many films, including Finding Steve McQueen, Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan, and Dreamland.

The actor stated that he will not appear in another television series following the Norse mythological drama. However, he could not refuse the lead role in Ridley Scott’s science fiction epic Raised By Wolves.

Before reading the screenplay, the actor embraced the opportunity to work with Scott, with whom he had long wished to collaborate.
