Teddy Gentry is best known as the bassist and vocalist for the iconic country music band “Alabama.” In 1969, he and Randy Owen formed the band in Fort Payne, Alabama. Jeff Cook, another relative, soon joined them.

The band’s original name was Wild Country, and it wasn’t until 1977 that it was renamed Alabama. They released their debut single, “I Want to Be with You Tonight,” in 1977, and it peaked at 78th on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Mark Herndon became a member of the band in 1979.

A year later, in 1980, the band released “I Wanna Come Over,” which became their first radio hit and reached the Billboard country chart’s Top 40.

The next year, they released “Tennessee River,” which reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart. The track “Tennessee River” was one of 34 that topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart. “Love in the First Degree” (1981), “Dixieland Delight” (1983), and “Song of the South” (1984) are among these singles (1988).

In 1990, the band released the song “Jukebox in My Mind,” which not only reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs list but also stayed there for four weeks.
