Stray Kids Became The Second K-Pop Act In History

Stray Kids

One of Stray Kids’ most productive days in their career was March 29. The trio, who gained notoriety after winning a 2017 survival competition and was frequently criticized for their “noise music,” made significant headway into the Billboard charts.

The self-producing group’s career was forever changed when Stray Kids made their chart debuts on the Billboard 200, Artist 100, Top Album Sales, Top Current Album Sales, Bubbling Under Hot 100, and a few other charts in less than 24 hours. The STAY following is jubilant and clapping.

Members of MANIAC also emailed followers on Bubble and made sincere comments on Instagram to express their gratitude for their constant support. Even JYP Entertainment produced a video to mark the occasion.

The only other K-pop artist in history to make their Billboard 200 debut at number one is Stray Kids.
For STAYs and Stray Kids, the preceding 24 hours have been an emotional roller coaster. The group awoke to become the third K-pop group, after BTS and SuperM, to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard 200.

ODDINARY, the group’s debut album in the country, opened at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart with 103,000 sales and sold 110,000 copies. ODDINARY has the highest US pure sales week of any album released in 2022 as of March 2022.

Only the fourth K-pop group, the multi-talented self-producing unit also made its Artist 100 debut at No. 1. Except SuperM (a fusion of SM’s previous group members), they are also the only fourth-generation group to be represented on the charts.

Even the Top Current Album Sales list was won by the boy band Thunderous. Along with MANIAC, they also made their debut at No. 19 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and at the top of the global digital song sales chart. While ODDINARY debuted at No. 1 on the World Albums chart, MANIAC extended its winning streak by ranking No. 21 on the Billboard Global 200 Singles list.

The action-packed day doesn’t end there. While MANIAC debuted at No. 15 on the Global Excl. US chart, ODDINARY by Stray Kids debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Tastemaker Albums list. On Twitter’s most recent Hot Trending Songs ranking, MANIAC was placed No. 2.

The eight-member group spoke on Twitter about their incredible accomplishment of becoming just the third K-pop act in history to top the Billboard 200 list with writer Jeff Benjamin and Billboard executive director Jason Lipshutz.

The recent partnership between JYP Entertainment and Republic Records, a US record label, appears to have given Stray Kids a huge push in the right direction. It remains to be seen what the three will accomplish on their upcoming global tour with another record, as promised in Step Out 2022, given the phenomenal popularity of just one mini-album.
