Rapper Coolio from Gangsta’s Paradise passed away on Wednesday at the age of 59, according to a statement from his manager.

Rapper, producer, and actor Coolio passed unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was best known for the 1995 smash song Gangsta’s Paradise. His age was 59.

According to Variety, his longtime manager Jarel Posey confirmed the news of his passing. Following a notification from the rapper’s manager regarding his passing, condolences to the artist began to flood in.

The late rapper’s management said in a statement, “Our loss of Coolio, a close friend, and client, who went away this afternoon, breaks our hearts.

Coolio rose to prominence as one of the most well-known rappers of the 1990s because of the success of his song Gangsta’s Paradise, which was used in the Michelle Pfeiffer-starring 1995 movie Dangerous Minds.

At the Grammy Awards, the song was nominated for record of the year and best rap solo performance, winning in both.

Coolio’s industry peers also shared touching tributes on social media as his followers shared their grief over his passing.
