Savannah Guthrie Discusses Her Miscarriage And Motherhood

Savannah Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie, an American broadcast journalist, and attorney of Australian descent, is the proud mother of two children, Vale Guthrie Feldman, and Charles Max Feldman. Since March 15, 2014, she has been married to Democratic political and communications expert Michael Feldman, with whom she shares custody of their two children.

Savannah Guthrie’s Obstacles During Her Pregnancy

Guthrie’s path to parenthood was not an easy one, since she had been through much in her life, including a miscarriage, before becoming a mother.

During a recent interview with Good Housekeeping, in which she was featured alongside her NBC’s Today show co-star Hoda Kotb, the 50-year-old anchor stated that she had doubts about her ability to conceive at age 41, particularly following a miscarriage.

At that age, she had not yet become a mother.

“I stopped even allowing myself to hope or believe I could [conceive] because the years were passing,” she added. “I did not believe it was impossible; nonetheless, I did not believe it was likely. I did not wish to have higher expectations.”

Guthrie consoled herself by reassuring herself that the absence of a child in her life should not be causing her distress.

“In hindsight, it was most certainly a self-defense approach,” she remarked.

However, the television personality also understood the importance of having strong support networks, individuals who urge them to remain cheerful and have faith that things will work out for the best.

Her mother, who aided Guthrie in overcoming several obstacles in her life, was her support system from the beginning.

“It was a pleasure having her because she was always so confident,” she recalled. “‘Of course, Savannah, you’ll have a family!’ she would say. It felt terrific.”

Later, she received assistance from her husband Feldman, whom she met in 2009 while on vacation in Turks and Caicos. The couple was finally engaged in 2013 and married in Tucson, Arizona on March 15, 2014.

Despite the miscarriage, she was blessed with two children

Guthrie revealed two days after her wedding that she was four months pregnant with their first child. In March 2014, Guthrie stated, “I — we — are four months pregnant.” “We are elated, joyful, and appreciative.”

The first child of the marriage, Vale, was born on August 13, 2014, weighing 8 lbs. 5 oz. And her length was 19.5 inches. According to Guthrie, Vale has “blue eyes, a little blondish hair, and the chubbiest cheeks you’ve ever seen.”

However, the issues for the television host did not end there, as she later miscarried. She was upset by the miscarriage but resolved to conquer her anxieties.

After the miscarriage, she underwent two IVF cycles, which helped her become pregnant again. And in 2016, she and her husband had their second son, Charles.

She told Good Housekeeping that she and her children were thriving and she had no regrets about becoming an “older” parent. Instead, she believed she could dedicate more time to her family because her “thirty-year-old self” could not balance work and family life.
