Samuel, a Missouri student, was murdered by Emma Adams.

Columbia resident Emma Adams, 20, was detained about the incident. On January 13, Adams entered a not-guilty plea to second-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence, and abandonment of a corpse after initially refusing to show up in court.

Adams’ lawyer, Jeffrey Hilbrenner, requested the judge waive her bond hearing on Tuesday. Adams will show up in court on February 16 for a preliminary hearing and is now being held in the Boone County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bail.

Around 5:30 on January 10, Adams was detained following a health check by the MUPD at a dorm on the MU campus. By court records, a mother asked the police to check on her son, who hadn’t been in contact with her since January 9 about 10:30 p.m.

The male student could not be found, according to the officers. Court records state that the MUPD tracked his movements using security cameras. Around 10:40 p.m. on January 9, the student was seen leaving Hudson Hall and getting into an Uber.

By court records, Uber and a ping from the student’s phone helped officers find a house in the 2400 block of Bentley Court. Adams reportedly permitted officers to investigate the home and backyard, where they found the skeletal remains in a fire pit.
