Sam Kang Traveled To New York With Only $700 In Order To Pursue His Dream

Next month, Bravo will debut a new season of Top Chef, which will feature 15 chefs. Sam Kang is one of the exceptional chefs competing in Season 19 who has demonstrated his culinary skills. Kang has traveled the world to get knowledge of varied cuisines and flavors.

He is not only an excellent chef but also an excellent tutor. He is currently employed as a chef instructor, where he teaches motivated students culinary skills.

Kang has a webpage dedicated to his new teaching experience, which starts in 2020. One can attend classes online or in their own kitchen. On the website of Chef Sam Kang, it states:

Sam Kang arrived in New York with only $700 on his person

Kang has always desired to be a chef de cuisine. In 2010, he left his hometown of Gardena, California, for New York with only $700. His professional career began at Chef David Chang’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant Momofuku Ko.

In 2012, he joined Chef Daniel Humm’s three-Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park after mastering the foundations of cooking. There, he discovered the advantages of teamwork, talent, and organization.

Four years later, he returned to Momofuku Ko as an assistant chef and helped Chef David Chang open Bar Way. In the new company, he held the position of Chef de Cuisine.

Kang acquired more about the cuisines of Cambodia, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Japan, Laos, France, Spain, South Korea, and the United Kingdom via traversing the world. According to his website, his culinary expertise is referred to as “The Art of Cooking Without Cooking.”

Season 19 of Top Chef: Everything You Need to Know

Kang and the other fourteen competitors must face various difficult challenges to complete the season of competition. They will be judged by Padma Lakshmi, the host of Top Chef, along with Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons.

The winner will receive a monetary reward of $250,000, a profile in Food and Wine magazine, and the title of America’s Top Chef. Season 19 of Top Chef is scheduled to premiere on Bravo on March 3, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).
