But her life is more complicated than what viewers see on television.

In 2016, the host published her memoir, Love, Loss, and What We Ate, which provided fans with insight into her personal life.

She opened up about her three-year marriage to former husband Salam Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses.

Lakshmi revealed the truth about her turbulent love life in her autobiography.

Padma Lakshmi’s Happily Ever After With Husband Salman Rushdie

The author met her ex-husband in 1999 and was captivated by him, referring to him as the Indian Hemingway.

She was surprised to learn that Rushdie, who was far out of her league, was interested in her.

“He was by far the best thing that ever happened to me. It was almost unbelievable that someone of that stature and caliber wanted to take me out to lunch “People shared Lakshmi.

The couple went on their first date in Central Park and ended up taking it to bed.

Lakshmi admitted that his words had seduced her.

They finally moved in together after Lakshmi was convinced that Rushdie’s marriage to his third wife was over.

The couple married in 2004, and the Emmy-nominated host recalled that the early days of their relationship were “blissful” and passionate.

Every morning, her husband would make her breakfast in bed.

Lakshmi was overjoyed because she had finally found someone who understood her because Rushdie, like her, was an Indian living in the West.

Padma Lakshmi’s Divorce Is Almost Here

Everything was going swimmingly for the cookbook author, but she had no idea her marriage would fall apart.

As their marriage blossomed, so did Lakshmi’s food career, but instead of celebrating and supporting his wife, her spouse resented it.

The author of The Satanic Verses was unhappy because the host could no longer fully attend to his needs.

Lakshmi also wrote about having to console her husband whenever the Nobel Prize was awarded to someone else.

But this is just one of the less sinister and disturbing memories.

According to the chef, her husband was aloof about her endometriosis, which had gotten more acute.

As a result, she was frequently in chronic pain and unable to engage in sexual activity.

Instead of showing his support, Rushdie accused her of using her illness as an excuse not to have sex.

“I didn’t want to be there for him, but something was seriously wrong. And I couldn’t figure it out. And this led to a lot of confusion “The chef stated.

They were constantly arguing to the point where he referred to her as “a bad investment.”

The tipping point came when Rushdie went away on a trip saying “the show must go on” after Lakshmi had a five-hour surgery that resulted in stitches and stents.

Lakshmi’s first move after recovering was to consult with a divorce lawyer, and their marriage ended after three years.
