Rose Gerardi Pacino was wed to a native of San Fratello, Sicily, Salvatore Pacino. According to the account, Salvatore, better known as Sal, was barely seventeen when he married Rose.
Only one year after the couple wed, Al was born. However, their romance was doomed to fail. At the age of two, Al’s parents split. Rose and her two-year-old son Al relocated to the Bronx to live with her parents.
