Rakim Was Arrested As A Result Of A Child-Support Dispute With Nicole Smith

Rakim

Rakim, sometimes known as the God MC, is credited for popularizing multisyllabic rhyming techniques. The hip-hop legacy has inspired and influenced multiple generations of rappers, including Wu-Tang Clan, 2Pac, Nas, Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., and Eminem.

The seasoned MC is married to Felicia and has three children with her. In addition to his family with his wife, he also has a child with Nicole Smith. Multiple times he was incarcerated for failing to pay child support for his child with Nicole, despite being a family man.

In connection with a child-support issue with Nicole Smith, Rakim was detained

Despite the fact that Rakim’s relationship with Nicole does not appear to have produced problems with his present wife, it did give him troubles in other ways. In 2004, he was arrested for allegedly not paying child support.

Smith revealed on Hot 97’s Morning Show (via MTV) that Rakim was $25,000 behind on child support payments and that he had not seen their child for five years.

The MC stated he was unaware of the warrant and this was not the first time he had been wrongfully arrested for failing to pay child support. Rakim revealed that he found he had a son while incarcerated for the same charges in the past.

Rakim is one of the all-time greatest hip-hop artists

Rakim, whose real name is William Michael Griffin Jr., is one of the most influential and successful emcees and lyricists of all time. He revolutionized the hip-hop world by offering exceptional poetry and complex rhyming skills.

The Source rated him number one among the “Top 50 Lyricists of All Time” in 2012. Rakim began rapping at age seven and rose to fame with the song “Eric B for President” as a member of the hip-hop group Erin B. and Rakim. Their first album, Paid in Full, debuted at #58 on the Billboard 200 chart.

After the band disbanded in 1993, Rakim began his solo career in 1996 with the publication of his debut album, The 18th Letter. It reached number four on the Billboard 200 and received gold certification from the RIAA.

Even at his advanced age, the hip-hop icon is always on the move. To add to his legacy, Rakim’s book Sweat the Technique: Revelations on Creativity from the Lyrical Genius was published on September 24, 2019. It is meant to encourage artists of various genres by providing a glimpse into their life.

The artist of “Eric B for President” met his wife, Felicia, in high school, and they are still married. Rakim and his wife are the parents of three children: Tahmell Griffin, Jabar Griffin, and Destiny Griffin.

Rakim has also described how his parents served as role models and taught him about life and marriage. When the rapper appeared on The Breakfast Club, he questioned the impact of his parent’s divorce on his own marriage.
