PSY and P Nation will distribute four masks to participants, one waterproof and three KF masks.

The singer’s agency, P Nation, released a statement on June 22 on the COVID safeguards implemented in ‘PSY Soak Show – Summer Swag 2022’

Each concertgoer will receive one waterproof mask and three KF94 masks that can be exchanged up to three times during the concert.

Given the increased incidence of COVID-19 on the island nation, the adoption of four masks appears to be a positive development.

The declaration was made after the Central Disease Control Headquarters of South Korea expressed concern over the spread of harmful viruses and bacteria in wet weather. The command had issued a warning,

If possible, we recommend that outdoor activities avoid spraying water on spectators.

PSY is criticized by Netizens for wasting water amid the Korean drought

Nonetheless, the program has garnered much criticism. The soak show, in which the audience is bombarded with water cannons and streams throughout the performance, is notorious for its excessive water consumption.

This year, garbage is being penalized more than usual due to the catastrophic drought the country is experiencing.

PSY had earlier boasted on an MBC program that he used 300 tonnes of “drinkable water” for each performance, which garnered additional criticism. He had said,

“I only drink potable water. Water is pretty expensive. It costs approximately 300 tons each performance.”

Some fans have expressed concern about water waste in light of these conditions, but neither the agency nor the artist has reacted. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the winter drought in South Korea endures throughout the spring and early summer.

This month’s precipitation total was only 5.8mm, which is approximately 5.6% of the average monthly total of 104.2mm. Due to the severe drought, the sources of the Soyang River have already dried up.
