Paul Rudd described the experience as “unreal” and stated that he thought he “shouldn’t” have been present for the production of the final episode of the beloved sitcom.

In a recent interview, Paul Rudd, 53, reflected on his position as Mike Hannigan, Phoebe Buffay’s romantic interest on Friends.

The actor, who featured on 17 episodes late in the show’s 10-season run, said he had a nice time during the process, but acknowledged feeling a bit “strange” to be a part of the series finale.

“It also felt peculiar. I was in the previous episode and thought, “I shouldn’t be here… On the newest episode of Heart Breakfast, he stated, “I’m getting a front-row ticket to stuff I’m not allowed to witness.”

He went on to describe the event as enjoyable and the actors and crew as “outstanding.” “It was a lot of fun, and they were wonderful,” he said. “The entire event was somewhat weird… to be a part of it. I had no idea that I would appear in as many episodes as I did.”

Paul reported that the ensemble, comprised of Lisa Kudrow, Jenifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc, was really emotional during the final episode.

“Everyone was crying, and everyone was emotional. And I just was like, ‘Woah’ … “I felt extremely blessed, but I also just wanted to sit back and stay out of the way,” he explained.

The impact Friends had on popular culture was also discussed throughout the interview, and Paul described it as “comforting.” “Isn’t there something soothing about it?” he asked. “In the United States, you can always find what you’re looking for by flipping between channels.”

Paul’s time on Friends ran from 2002 to 2004, and he went on to score larger roles in both television and cinema, eventually becoming one of the most beloved actors in the industry.

The Shrink Next Door, Role Models, I Love You, Man, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Ant-Man, Avengers: Endgame, and Ghostbusters: Aftermath are among his most well-known shows and films.
