Nicola Walker

Maybe someone has told you that their wedding was the most beautiful day of their life. How many times have they said it’s like going to work? That’s exactly how Nicola Walker, a British actress, felt as she was ready to wed.

Nicola Walker Explains Her Reasons for Marrying

One of the few times Walker talked about her marriage in public was during an interview with Radio Times (via Independent).

But she made it clear from on that this would not be a love story. Such that she contemplated lying. She started by explaining why she wed actor Barnaby Kay. Nearly two decades after getting married, she came clean and admitted that she just gotten married to protect her son Harry Kay.

She later admitted in the interview that she felt like she was going to work for the entire wedding ceremony. She went so far as to draw a parallel between her wedding and her line of work to defend what otherwise might have been a problematic comment.

She remarked, “I can understand how enticing that would be if you don’t do it for a career,” before adding, “Putting on a nice dress and makeup, learning lines, having someone do your hair.” She declared, “This is a public performance. It was simple to envision Walker disliking the idea of a lavish wedding in light of her statement.

The actress chose to throw a “small family thing” rather than a grand affair with an impressive guest list.

According to Charlotte Cripps’ Independent article from years ago, Walker had a no-nonsense attitude akin to most of her characters, which is true based on her interview. Walker talked about her worry about losing her work after having children in the same interview.

Even though her postpartum break was one of the longest in her career, her worries were unfounded because she returned to work six months after her son was born.

She did in fact film the fifth season of Spooks while expecting, hiding her baby bump behind paperwork. After having her kid, she formally departed the show, but she didn’t stick around for very long.

Returning to Show Business After Giving Birth

She met with producer Jane Featherstone after leaving the program to set up a meeting with infant Harry. Featherstone expressed her gratitude for Walker as the conference came to an end.

The chat, according to Walker, went something like this: “And I said, “I miss you so much!” Do you want to come back?” she asked. I then affirmed, “Yes, I honestly do.”

The conversation came to an end then. She came back to the program. However, she acknowledged that because her agent was unhappy with how everything turned out, she wouldn’t agree to a similar show again.

She then started getting an unexpectedly large amount of work. Such that she found it difficult to balance her workload on an emotional and professional level.
