Writing his new album on a remote island, according to Stormzy, was a “really strange, mystical experience.”

The 29-year-old grime artist withdrew to Osea Island, which is sealed off by the high tide in the Blackwater Estuary near Maldon, Essex.

He described the producers and musicians with him as “very gifted” while speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2.

Three years after the release of his second album, Heavy Is The Head, This Is What I Mean is scheduled for release on November 25.

“Once you’re on the island, you’re practically stuck there, and we made a major amount of the album there,” the artist said in a statement to Ball.

When people talk about their spiritual experiences, it sounds like an outing with the fairies. Still, for everyone present, we prayed together, played football together, laughed together, and conversed with one another.

They are also some of the top producers and artists in the world. “And they were some of the best musicians in the world.”

The popular single Mel Made Me Do It, which has a 10-minute music video with Louis Theroux, former athlete Usain Bolt, and footballer Jose Mourinho was released last month. The new 12-track album is the follow-up to that.

“I love Louis and I’ve been a tremendous, massive admirer of his from years ago,” Stormzy declared.

As part of his upcoming Louis Theroux Interviews television series on BBC Two, the documentary filmmaker was granted unique access to the Brit Award winner.

The most extensive tour Stormzy has ever done, as well as his home church, will all be on display for viewers.

“When I first met him, I was rather taken aback,” the musician remarked.

But once he gets down to the nitty-gritty, he disarms you, and as I watched it back, I thought, “I’ve never genuinely seen my life from this perspective.”
