Netflix First Live Event Will Be Emceed By Chris Rock

Chris Rock

To test the viability of streaming live events, comedian Chris Rock will present Netflix’s first-ever live show.

Beginning in early 2023, a stand-up special by Rock will be shown worldwide. It might pave the way for additional live programming on Netflix, including live sports, reality TV, and other important events.

Up until recently, established broadcasters have maintained their supremacy in must-watch live programs.

Rock is “one of the most iconic and significant comedic voices of our generation,” according to Netflix vice president of stand-up and comedy formats Robbie Praw.

He continued,

“We’re excited that everyone in the world will be able to attend a live Chris Rock comedy performance and participate in Netflix history. “This will be a time to remember, and Chris carrying the torch is an honor for us,”

When Rock was slapped on stage at the Oscars by Will Smith, it became one of the biggest live TV moments of the year. The ceremony is carried on Sky in the UK and the ABC TV network in the US.

The specific time and place of Rock’s new special are still unknown. He has done Netflix specials in the past that were recorded but not live-streamed.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the corporation has just started “warming up” to broadcasting live sports. Rivals like Disney+, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video have already made significant investments in lucrative sports rights.

Future live-streamed content might potentially include reality TV or talent competitions where viewers can choose the winners.

I’m A Celebrity… was watched by 7.9 million people in the UK, according to overnight TV ratings. Take Me Away From Here! – which airs live on ITV on Wednesday and allows viewers to choose the celebrity participants who will participate in gory trials.

Due to Netflix’s recent decision to participate in the official TV rating system, we now know that on Wednesday, the premiere day of the new series of The Crown, around 1.1 million people in the UK watched it on television.

Although Netflix would hope Rock’s special will have durability, the audience for dramas like The Crown will be distributed over a much longer length of time, which is not the case with most live programs.
