Maxwell Frost Became The First Gen-Z Member Of Congress

Maxwell Frost

The first member of Generation Z to be elected to the House of Representatives is American activist Maxwell Frost, who just won his race for Congress in Florida. The politician said the following in an address to his supporters:

Tampa Central I’m Maxwell Alejandro Frost, and I’ll be the first person from Generation Z to hold elected office in the US Congress.

Frost spoke about his fight against gun violence, claiming that he started his campaign at the age of 15 following the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Additionally, he stated that everyone in Central Florida deserves a “bold transformative shift” and that people expect “huge championships.”

People are on the lookout for courageous leaders that support the massive transformational change that is required and that every single person in Central Florida, the entire state of Florida, and the entire country deserves simply for being a human.

In Orlando, veteran Army Green Beret Calvin Wimbish, 72, lost to Maxwell Frost, 25, in the race for the 10th Congressional District seat. According to NBC News, the young democrat had a commanding lead over Wimbish with 72% of the vote, winning by a margin of 58.8% to 39.7%.

As a member of Generation Z, Frost recently reached the 25-year-old age requirement for the chamber (those born between the late 1990s and early 2010s). Given that the average age of House members is 58, he is likely to stand out among his colleagues.

All House Members must be at least 25 years old, even though the age requirement to serve in the US Senate is 30. Gen Z candidates reportedly met the legal age requirement to run for the House for the first time in the 2022 election cycle.

Maxwell Frost is an American politician, community organizer, and activist. He was born on January 17, 1997, to a Haitian father and a Puerto Rican woman with Lebanese ancestry. According to Frost’s official biography, his mother and grandmother Yeya arrived in Florida from Cuba during the Freedom Flights in the early 1960s.

He claims that during her entire pregnancy, his biological mother, who had seven children, fell victim to a cycle of drug use, criminality, and violence.

Maritza Argibay Frostas, a special education teacher, eventually adopted Frost when he was a baby. He graduated from the Orlando-based Osceola County School for the Arts and will enroll at Valencia College in June 2022.

The legislator reportedly saw the effects of gun violence in his hometown and experienced police abuse as a young child. After the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, he started speaking out against gun violence.

In addition, Frost contributed to the 2012 presidential campaign of Barack Obama and served as a volunteer for the Newtown Action Alliance, a nonprofit established in the wake of the tragedy.

The politician also began working for Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and Margaret Good, and she was named the national organizing director of March for Our Lives, a group of students who support stricter gun laws.

Maxwell Frost led the ACLU during Florida’s winning Amendment 4 campaign and fought for abortion rights there as well. The amendment allowed almost 1.6 million Floridians with prior felony convictions to regain their right to vote.

In the Democratic primary held in August, Frost defeated ten other candidates to win the nomination to take Rep. Val Demings’ place. He ultimately prevailed in the 2022 election as the Democratic nominee, and he is now the first member of Generation Z to serve in Congress.
