Lee Jung-Jae, the star of Squid Game, has accomplished something new. Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 27th Critics’ Choice Awards went to the South Korean actor. The Critics Choice Movie Award is a ceremony honoring the top achievements in the film industry.

Every, the American-Canadian Critics Choice Association sponsors the event. Written ballots are submitted throughout the course of a week-long nomination period.

On March 13, 2022, Lee Jung-Jae was the first Korean actor to win Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 27th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

In addition, Lee played the lead role of Seong Gi-hun and reaped the benefits of his exceptional acting skills. Lee Jung-Jae defeated competitors such as Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong of Succession.

His original acceptance speech had the audience in spasms of laughter. As stated by the actor:

“Thank you, God.”

He then thanked everyone who was present on and off set during the development of the hit series. Netflix, the online streaming service, was credited by Lee with laying the path for his accomplishment.

He declared:

“Many thanks to everyone who contributed to Squid Game. It is difficult for me to articulate my emotions. Thank you incredibly”

In addition, the K-drama won two of the three awards for which it had been nominated: Best Foreign Language Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-Jae).

Also nominated for Best Drama Series, but Succession won the award. Acapulco, Call My Agent!, Lupin, Money Heist, and Narcos: Mexico was defeated by Squid Game to win the award for Best Foreign Language Series.

In the first 28 days after its launch in September 2021, the K-drama surpassed 1.65 billion hours of viewing time to become the most-watched series on Netflix.

Since then, the series has been nominated for and awarded a number of honors for its actors’ and authors’ exceptional performances.

Lee Jung-Jae and Jung Ho-yeon received Screen Actors Guild Award nominations (SAG)

In February 2022, Lee Jung-Jae and Jung Ho-yeon made history by being the first Korean actors from a non-English-language series to win acting honors at the annual SAG Awards.

Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series was awarded to the couple, respectively.

Interestingly, Jung Ho-first Yeon’s acting appearance was in the drama series. The K-drama series was also voted Best Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series later that evening.
