Spang also appeared in short films such as Short Walk to Daylight, Runaway!, and Sarah T. – Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic for television.
When her contract with Universal Studios was about to expire and she was facing bankruptcy, Laurette was cast as Cassiopeia in the original Battlestar Galactica TV series in 1978. She was only supposed to appear in one episode, but she ended up appearing in all of them throughout a season.
Following her success in the now-cult classic, Spang went on to star in a slew of other television shows, including The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Magnum, P.I.
