Kristen, Andrew, and the rest of the f-cks

We’re in an award show chronology, with award shows all around us. Kristen Stewart was nominated Best Actress for her role in Spencer last night at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards, and Andrew Garfield was named Best Actor for his portrayal in tick, tick… BOOM!

Kristen and Andrew have both been nominated for Academy Awards. And, while Jessica Chastain has emerged as the leader for Best Actress following the SAG Awards the other night, Kristen Stewart and Penelope Cruz were not present, indicating that there isn’t a slam dunk safe bet in that category. Will Smith has the lead and the “it’s his time” energy in the Best Actor category, but it’s not like the Academy didn’t just throw a curveball in the Best Actor category last year, so Andrew is still in it. Because, well, what a year it’s been for him. Spider-Man: No Way Home and tick…tock…BOOM! Not to mention, now that we’ve mentioned Jessica Chastain, he’s in that movie! He’s Jim to Tammy Faye’s Tammy Faye!

As a result, the Academy may be seeing him a lot more than the other contenders.

Anyway, what made Kristen and Andrew so amusing at this event was… well, you know how we constantly talk about how pre-Oscar speeches may sometimes be auditions for the real thing, and Academy members can see what it would be like if that person were put in that position? Matthew McConaughey is an excellent example.

Kristen and Andrew’s speeches last night were full off-cks, to say the least. Literally. It’s hilarious, and I adore it. And, of course, it was appropriate for the occasion. It’s not like they’d get up on that stage and start dropping bombs if they won the Oscars. But, as Sarah has said about contenders who are just pleased to be nominated and how much more fun it is during the process – that’s exactly what we’re witnessing with Kristen and Andrew.
