Josh Giddey was born in Australia on October 10, 2002. He attended St Kevin’s College in Melbourne before joining the NBA Global Academy and becoming one of the game’s rising stars at such a young age. He surged for an average of 20 points, 8.3 rebounds, and six assists per game at the Australian Under-18 Championships in April 2019. With this performance, he rose to the top of the VIC Metro. In January 2020, he led the NBA Global Academy to victory in the Torneo Junior Ciutat de L’Hospitalet in Barcelona, earning him the title of “most valuable player (MVP).” During the NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago the following month, he participated in Basketball Without Borders and was named camp all-star.

Warrick, Giddey’s father, was a basketball professional player who played for many years and was a member of the Melbourne Tigers in Australia. His mother, Kim, was a former Women’s National Basketball League player who played for the Tigers. Hannah Giddey, Giddey’s sister, used to play forward for the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. His father, Warrick Giddey, was also the head coach of Josh’s basketball team at St. Kevin’s College in Melbourne. His father resigned down as a coach and began supporting his son’s NBA career.

Josh Giddey- Professional Career

Giddey signed a contract with the Adelaide 36ers of the NBA on March 12, 2020, becoming the first Australian to be a part of the Next Stars Program to develop an NBA draft pick. He turned down numerous offers from NCAA Division I programs, including Arizona, in order to stay with the Adelaide 36ers. On April 26, 2021, he scored 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 93-77 loss against the New Zealand Breakers. He set the record for the youngest Australian in NBA history with a triple-double.

Giddey was deemed eligible to participate in the 2021 NBA draft on April 27, 2021, as a member of the NBA draft lottery. Later, on July 29th, he was drafted as the sixth overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and on August 8th, he signed a contract with Thunder, but that same day, he suffered an ankle injury while playing in his NBA Summer League debut, and he was ruled out for the rest of the competition as a precautionary measure. On October 20, 2021, he made his NBA debut with the Thunder, scoring four points, grabbing ten rebounds, and dishing out three assists in a 107-86 loss to the Utah Jazz.
