Jonathan Vilma: Early Life and Family

Jonathan Polynice Vilma was born to his parents, Fritz Vilma and Nelly Vilma, on April 16, 1982, in Coral Gables, Florida. In addition, Jonathan’s parents were originally from Haiti until they immigrated to the United States. Besides, the native of Florida has a girlfriend, Alice Vilma, with whom he grew up.

But after hours of digging, we still haven’t been able to find any information about his childhood. But, we found out he was attending the G.W. Carver Middle School and Coral Gables High School, where he earned a name for himself playing for his high school football team.

After that, Vilma enrolled at the University of Miami after earning a scholarship from the University of Miami. Subsequently, the Florida native played for the Miami Hurricanes soccer team from 2000 to 2003, catching several NFL scouts on the way.

In reality, by the time he finished his four-year career, Vilma was a three-time All-Big East Academic Conference. Thus, at the end of 2003, Jonathan graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in finance from the School of Business Administration.

Jonathan Vilma: Career and Stats

Jonathan began his professional career with the New York Jets when he was picked 12th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. Having been one of the top picks, hopes were strong for the Florida native to succeed. Subsequently, he soared to expectations when he earned the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. In addition, Vilma finished the campaign with 107 assaults, three interceptions, and two sacks. So, having just had a fantastic year, Jonathan was under pressure to do even better in his second season in the NFL. And that’s just what the 37-year-old did when he led the NFL in the battles with 169. In addition, Vilma also made his first appearance at Pro Bowl in 2006.

Subsequently, the Florida native had another commendable season with the Jets compiling stats of 114 tackles, one fumble recovery, a forced fumble, and an interception. However, the fourth year of Vilma’s franchise has turned out to be a nightmare. The explanation for this is that he sustained a seasonal knee injury in the seventh game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Thus, the combination of injury and limited period left in the deal led the Jets to trade a 6-foot 1 line-backer to the New Orleans Saints for a 4th round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft and another 2009 NFL Draft.

Having just been traded to the Saints, they all wanted Jonathan to take the time to adapt. He did the reverse, though, as he was the only good in a poor defensive unit, which conceded a lot of touchdowns. However, the 37-year-old finished his first season with the saints with 132 shots and a sack in 16 games.

Moving on, the following year, nobody would have expected the Saints of New Orleans to hit the Super Bowl, let alone win it. But that’s what happened when Vilma led his team to the Super Bowl XLIV after playing some of the crucial games that helped them defeat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17. Added to that, Jonathan was also chosen for his second Pro Bowl appearance.

After that, Vilma had a pretty decent 2010 season, where he led the team in the fights and then sustained a catastrophic 2011 knee injury. However, no one would have expected the storm that New Orleans Saints and Vilma would face in the 2012 season.

During the 2012 season, Saints was embroiled in a controversy, alleging that defensive coordinator Gregg Williams provided cash to his players to take out opposition players. Likewise, Vilma was also said to have given his teammates $10,000 to take out Brett Favre at the 2009 NFC Championship Game.

As a result, Jonathan was suspended for the entire 2012 season. But that was nothing compared to the huge blow to his hard-earned years of prestige. Added to that, fans and analysts began to cheat the player and the organization.

Thus, we conclude that Vilma never really recovered from this incident because after having endured a 2013 season of injury, he formally retired from the NFL at the end of 2014. Jonathan’s accomplishments were not forgotten, however, as New Orleans Saints honored their former player by inducting him into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 2017.

However, we found out that the 37-year-old had a daughter named Samara Vilma. However, the name of Samaara’s maternal mother remains hidden from the eyes of the public.
