Jon Bernthal, whose full name appears to be Jonathan Edward Bernthal, was born in Washington, DC, on September 20, 1976. He was born into a Jewish family. Joan Lurie (née Marx) and Eric Lawrence “Rick” Bernthal, a former lawyer with Latham & Watkins LLP who served as chair of the Humane Society’s board of directors until 2019. Murray Bernthal, Jon’s grandfather, was a musician and producer (1911-2010). Samuel, the father of his paternal grandfather, emigrated to New York from Sareth, Buchenland, Austrian Empire, which is now known as Siret, Romania. Nicholas and Thomas are Jon’s two brothers. Adam Schlesinger, his cousin who died of COVID-19 complications in April 2020 during the global pandemic of the virus, was a guitarist.
