John Holiday was born and raised in Rosenberg, Texas, and grew up singing in church. Sandra Mathis Franklin, whom he affectionately refers to as “Big Momma,” was a pianist and choir director at Houston’s Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. And it was she who inspired him to sing and learn to play the piano.

In terms of his parents, John was born to John Holiday, Sr. and Waverly A. Holiday. His father was a welder, and his mother was a housewife who also sang and played the clarinet. However, it appears that his parents are divorced. John once stated that he has a stepmother who is over 50 years old and lives in Navasota, Texas.

His siblings’ identities were not revealed. John had a close cousin named Jimmie Lee who was the Executive Vice President of Major League Baseball. Unfortunately, he died in December 2020.

John Holiday’s Husband, Gay, and Children

Boys, calm down, John Holiday has a husband. On February 4, 2013, John married Paul Gater and moved to Wisconsin with him. In case you’re wondering, Paul, isn’t a singer. As John stated in an interview,

“I’d never date a singer.” Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with singers.”

John appeared to have an exotic palate. Paul, his husband, worked as a surveyor for an oil company. Even though little was known about him, Paul appeared to be close to John’s family and even appeared with them on Instagram in September 2020.

It was unknown whether John and Paul had any children. When it comes to John’s sexuality, he first came out to his grandmother as gay. He remembered how, on his 25th birthday, he mustered the courage to tell his Big Momma,
