John Henton is a comedian and actor from the United States. He began his stand-up comedy career by performing at an amateur night at a local comedy club. Henton moved to Los Angeles soon after and began performing stand-up comedy full-time by 1988.

Henton won the Johnny Walker National Comedy Search in 1991. Jim McCawley, the former comedy executive for The Tonight Broadcast Starring Johnny Carson, recognized Henton after the show and booked him for a performance.

In 1993, Henton made his acting debut as Overton Wakefield Jones in the FOX comedy series Living Single. Following the conclusion of the series in 1998, he landed his next important role as Milsap Morris on the UPN/ABC sitcom The Hughleys. Furthermore, the actor has appeared in several other television shows, including The Parkers, One on One, Love That Girl!, and Hannah Montana.

John Henton’s Age: How Old Is He?

On November 23, 1960, John Henton was born in East Cleveland, Ohio.

Early Years and Career

Henton is a Shaw High School alumni. Lindsay Henton, his younger brother, is 30 years his junior.

Henton never contemplated a career in comedy when he was younger. However, a coworker pushed him to try his jokes at a local comedy club’s amateur night in 1982. He was working during the day and studied computer science at night at the time. Henton won the amateur night contest on his second night and began doing stand-up part-time.

Soon after, in 1985, Henton relocated to Los Angeles and began performing stand-up comedy full-time by 1988. After traveling for a year and winning the 1991 Johnny Walker National Comedy Search, Henton was found by former The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson comedy executive Jim McCawley. McCawley then scheduled him for a guest appearance on the show.

As he finished his act, Henton looked to Carson for appreciation, but he got a lot more. When Henton was called over to take a seat on the expensive couch, Carson asked whether he had an agent. Carson responded to Henton’s “no” with, “Well, you will after tonight.” That performance, according to Henton, gave his career a “major jump-start.”
