Grace Millane was a traveler from the United Kingdom. In December 2018, her disappearance in Auckland received international notice. The backpacker’s family became anxious when she did not respond to her birthday wishes.

On December 9, police launched an investigation and discovered her body. Jesse Kempson, a New Zealand native, cruelly killed Grace on the eve of her 22nd birthday. Jesse Kempson, aged 26, was convicted and sentenced to life in jail by police.

Jesse Kempson, 31, was found guilty of the murder of Grace Millane and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum 17-year non-parole period in February 2020. The killer requested an appeal of his conviction. The New Zealand Court of Appeal, however, rejected it.

They allegedly met in December 2018 on the dating app Tinder. Jesse murdered Grace by strangling her during a sexual encounter. Grace Millane had recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing from the University of Lincoln. She went hiking during her gap year.

On November 20, 2018, the gorgeous girl arrived in New Zealand after spending six weeks in South America. Millane arrived in Auckland’s central business district on December 1. Jesse Kempson was spotted with her.

At 9:41 p.m., she was last seen with the New Zealander at the CityLife Hotel on Queen Street.

Jesse performed many internet searches on how to dispose of remains, according to incriminating phone data. He looked up information about flesh-eating birds, the hottest fire, the Waitakere Ranges, enormous bags near me, and so on.

Police uncovered her dead in a small burial just a few meters from a scenic route in West Auckland’s Waitakere Ranges.

Why Was Jesse Kempson’s Name Not Initially Revealed?

Jesse Kempson’s identity was protected by a suppression order secured by Kiwi courts, which would have been in place until 2021. Even the reasons for keeping his name hidden at the time were kept under wraps.

Kempson was found to be facing two further prosecutions for major sexual charges against two women after his trial for Grace’s death. The court kept his identity hidden to ensure a fair trial in subsequent cases and to avoid judicial prejudice.

He was found guilty of all nine charges in both judge-along trials. He was sentenced to 11 years in jail, which would run concurrently with his sentence for Grace’s murder. Kempson soon filed an appeal, which resulted in the suspension being extended.

On December 22, 2020, the identifying restriction was lifted after he lost his appeal against his murder conviction.

Grace Millane’s Mother Desires That Her Name Be Remembered

Even though the criminal had been sentenced and the case had been concluded, the Millane family was still mourning their awful loss.

Gillian Millane, Grace Millane’s mother, admitted to Newshub that the Christmas season is the hardest. Grace’s father, David, passed away from cancer in November 2020.

Declan and Michael Millane are Grace Millane’s two brothers. Gillian, on the other hand, reported that the family is doing well. Grace’s mother stated, “It will never be right, and she is in a better state than she was before because she has to be.”
