Jason died in a horrific incident during qualifying for the Mugello Grand Prix when he was 19 years old. As soon as he crashed, onboard medics treated him for 40 minutes before airlifting him to Careggi hospital in Florence for a lung hemopneumothorax. He had brain damage and had to have chest surgery owing to vascular complications.

Jason lost control of his bike and collided with Ayumu Sasaki, a Japanese cyclist. This occurred between the 9th and 10th turns. He had a strong start to the race, accumulating points and remaining in the top 10 competitors. Jeremy Alcoba was also involved in the aftermath of the incident, although both riders were unharmed, according to Moto GP. Everyone sent their sympathies to his family, friends, teammates, and supporters.
