Kensington Palace has revealed that Jacinda Ardern has been selected as a trustee of the Prince of Wales’ prestigious environment award.

Prince William deemed it an honor to host the former New Zealand prime minister to the Earthshot Prize.

In January, Ms. Ardern announced she no longer had “enough in the tank” to lead the nation.

The former prime minister said she was “humbled and pleased” to join the Earthshot team.

Prince William stated that Ms. Ardern’s “lifelong dedication to supporting sustainable and environmental solutions” and her experience will “infuse our goal with a wealth of new ideas.”

“Four years ago, before the Earthshot Prize ever had a name, Jacinda was one of the first individuals I met with, and her enthusiasm and recommendations were vital to the early success of the prize.

“I am incredibly grateful to her for joining us as she advances in her profession,” he continued.

Prince William founded the Earthshot Prize to fund innovations that strive to rescue the world.

In December of the previous year, Prince William and Princess Catherine presented five awards to recipients from the United Kingdom, India, Australia, Kenya, and Oman.

Ms. Ardern, upon joining Earthshot’s board of trustees, stated that she has believed in the prize’s “ability to stimulate and spread not only the innovation we so sorely need but also optimism” since its inception.

In September 2022, the former New Zealand prime minister visited the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York, where she spoke on behalf of Prince William, who had remained in the United Kingdom following the passing of Queen Elizabeth.

Christiana Figueres, chair of the board of trustees, said she was “thrilled” to welcome Ms. Ardern and had long been impressed by her “role as a driving force in the fight against climate change.”

Reuters reports that after her resignation, Ms. Ardern will serve as an unpaid special envoy for the Christchurch Call, an organization she co-founded in 2019 to bring technology businesses and countries together to combat terrorism.

Prince William and Ms. Ardern had met several times, notably when the former New Zealand prime minister visited Kensington Palace in Britain last July.

In 2019, Prince William accompanied his wife Catherine to New Zealand, where he met with survivors of the Christchurch mosque attacks.
