IU Shares Her Cannes Film Festival 2022 Experience

IU has recently discussed her experience at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, where she received praise for her portrayal in Broker, which went on to win the festival’s Ecumenical Jury Award.

During the conversation, the actress described her preparation for the film and praised her senior, the renowned actor Song Kang-ho. The singer-songwriter just debuted among other members of Hirokazu Kore-Broker eda’s ensemble at the Cannes Film Festival 2022.

“At first, I didn’t believe it,” IU describes her participation in the Cannes Film Festival 2022.

IU began the June 12 interview, which was published by Newsen, by stating that she felt chills when Song Kang-name ho’s win was announced, and she was pleased that the veteran actor acknowledged her in his acceptance speech.

She also noted that numerous individuals had praised her performance in the film, with some even guessing that she had been nominated for Best Actress. In contrast, IU stated that she had “no lasting thoughts” over not receiving the award.

The Lilac singer also revealed that she initially believed that only positive comments were being translated for her.

“When the film premiered and I received numerous compliments on my performance, I couldn’t believe it.” After running the comments via a translation tool, I realized that I was not only receiving favorable feedback.”

IU thanked director Hirokazu Kore-eda after discovering that this was not the case.

It was intriguing to me that people liked my performance. I wondered if the filmmaker was involved in any way. “I felt terrific.”

In Broker, IU portrays So-young, a single mother who has endured adversity. In addition to being vicious and nasty towards elders, she is also vocal. The actress revealed that she used to curse in front of her parents to appear more natural.

Because they were the most objective, I practiced swearing in front of my parents. I recall asking them if it sounded strange.

She had previously stated that she was apprehensive about portraying So-young due to her personal ties to a baby box charity, fearing that her character’s harsh words would be detrimental to the organization.

Broker debuted to considerable acclaim at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Song Kang-ho, a veteran actor, made history by being the first Korean male actor to win Best Actor for a film.

A quick look at Broker’s proposal

Broker is a family thriller centered on employees of a baby box manufacturing company. The term “baby box” refers to orphanages that care for newborns whose mothers have abandoned them. It provides a safe environment for these infants so that they can have a better life.

IU portrays So-young, a single mother who initially abandons her child but eventually returns to bear responsibilities, in the film. Lee Joo-young, Song Kang-ho, Bae Doona, and Kang Don-won also play major parts.

Song Kang-ho portrays Sang-Hyeon, a laundromat entrepreneur who sells children from a baby box to a church. Kang Dong-won portrays Dong-soo, his right-hand man. Dong-soo works at the church and aids in the operation of the illegal enterprise.

Bae Doona and Lee Joo-young portray detectives Soo-jin and Lee, who are searching for the two men.

The singer-actress has just completed Dream, a film in which she co-stars with Itaewon Class actor Park Seo-Joon, which has the potential to achieve widespread recognition. The project is directed by Lee Byung-hun, who directed Extreme Job.
