In P-Valley, Uncle Clifford is one of the audience’s favorite characters because of her unabashed demeanor and eye-catching wardrobe. The majority of the characters reside in Clifford’s Mississippi Delta strip club, The Pink. Clifford struggles to keep the club afloat but finds solace in Lil Murda’s love.

“Whether you are gay or straight, whether you are a man or a woman, I think sometimes you can forget that you need touch, that you need love, and Uncle Clifford to me operates from such a place of loving others that she has neglected herself,” Nicco Annan, the actor who plays Uncle Clifford, told Essence.

Who is Uncle Clifford?

Nicco Annan is a proud, gay man. For the LGBTQ+ community to be represented on television, Annan told Essence that he leaped at the chance to play Uncle Clifford. He stated:

“I rarely get the chance to share such a rich, lush story that actually means something and that I genuinely feel speaks to my community and can uplift us,” said the Black homosexual man.

The actor has been outspoken about his sexuality, but he has kept his romantic relationships a secret. Clifford in P-Valley is taken in by Lil Murda’s surprise ideological ploy. For low-level guys to interact with nonbinary or queer women or men is nothing new, according to Annan. He went on:

“However, what I consider to be new is that people are beginning to own their identity and their ambition. As Clifford, I found it somewhat disturbing to witness someone with this hypermasculinity approach her in the same way she moves without apology. I believe that was the part that confused her.
