James Conner Illness and Health Update: He Was Diagnosed With Cancer

On December 4, 2015, James Conner disclosed his diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a kind of blood cancer. Regardless of the diagnosis, the RB stated, “I choose not to fear Cancer… “I’m going to play football again.”

After injuring his medial collateral ligament (MCL) in the first game of the 2015 season for the Pittsburgh Panthers, he went to rehab and began feeling tremendous exhaustion and other symptoms. It prompted physicians to do a chest x-ray, which revealed that he had stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a blood cancer that affects the immune system.

Fortunately, if detected early, the condition can be efficiently treated. Although the diagnosis surprised James, his doctor, Stanley Marks, assured him that his cancer was curable. Conner had 12 rounds of chemotherapy and ended his last session on May 9, 2016.

Even while undergoing treatment, he continued to participate in non-contact exercises with the Panthers squad to the extent that his body would allow. He appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 21, 2016, and met Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, a fellow sufferer of the disease.

Conner saw Berry, who beat Hodgkin’s disease, as an inspirational person. Throughout Conner’s rehab, the two athletes communicated through text but never met in person. Finally, on May 23, 2016, Conner revealed on Twitter that he was cancer-free.

Is the Arizona Cardinals quarterback in action today?

Yes, James Conner will play today at the University of Phoenix Stadium against the New England Patriots. The Arizona Cardinals quarterback is a regular on the squad. Conner suffered an injury in Week 14 but returned to the game on Tuesday, according to Draft Kings Nations.

He had been injured after a 4-yard rush in the second quarter and had been taken to the injury tent for further treatment. The Cardinals’ injuries were a disaster, with Kyler Murray perhaps suffering a long-term knee injury.

His career accomplishments include two Pro Bowl appearances, an AFCA First-team All-American selection, ACC Player of the Year, ACC Offensive Player of the Year, the ACC Brian Piccolo Award, and two First-Team All-ACC selections.
