After Martin Bashir faked his bank statements to aid get a Princess Diana interview, the BBC struck a settlement with the former chief of security for Earl Spencer.

False documents, according to Alan Waller, were used to gain the late princess’s trust and persuade her to agree to an interview for Panorama.

Bashir was found to have used “deceitful” tactics to get an interview with Princess Diana, according to a 2021 investigation chaired by Lord Dyson. The business claimed to have settled with Mr. Waller.

The BBC and Alan Waller, a former worker of Diana Panorama, Princess of Wales’s brother, announced that an agreement had been reached following the release of the Dyson Report last year, the broadcaster announced in a statement released last Thursday.

“The BBC has agreed to pay Mr. Waller an agreed amount in damages and to cover his reasonable costs. The BBC also expresses regret to Mr. Waller for the incorrect information contained in the forged bank statements that were used to get the 1995 Interview with Diana, Princess of Wales.

The BBC wishes Mr. Waller the best of luck in the future and hopes he can finally put an end to this chapter.

Bashir’s strategies left Mr. Waller “extremely disturbed,” according to paperwork submitted to the High Court. Mr. Waller said that his commercial endeavors suffered when his name was associated with the incident.

In late 1995, while Princess Diana was no longer married to Prince Charles but still living together, Panorama aired Bashir’s interview with her.

Twenty million people or more watched the program. There were three of us in this marriage, the princess famously remarked in it, referring to the Prince of Wales’s connection with Camilla Parker Bowles, whom he eventually married.

The BBC issued an “unconditional apology” for how the interview was obtained following the release of Lord Dyson’s report, which harshly criticized the company, last year.

Although the BBC now has improved procedures, it stated the study revealed “obvious shortcomings” and that “those that existed at the time should have prevented the interview from being secured in this way.”
