Hyun Bin- Biography
Hyun Bin is a well-known Korean film and television actor best known for his love roles in films such as ‘Late Autumn’ and ‘My Name Is Kim San Soon.’ Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea’s national capital, he wasn’t initially interested in pursuing a career in acting, but the comments he received for his excellent looks prompted him to try, and he completed his bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies to further hone his skills as an actor.
Bin made his acting debut in 2003’s ‘Bodyguard,’ and despite a minor backlash from his parents, he continued with a career in films, and eventually, after seeing their son climb the ladder of fame, the parents made their peace with Hyun. In 2005, he rose to national prominence with his role in the TV series ‘My Name is Kim San Soon.’ He played Kang Jae-Kyung in the 2006 film ‘A Millionaire’s First Love,’ which supposedly created a worldwide success, and he became a universal heartthrob. Throughout his career, he has received numerous honors from the KBS Drama Awards, MBC Drama Awards, and Baeksang Art Awards.

On September 25, 1982, Hyun Bin was born to a regular Korean household in Seoul, South Korea. He was a curious and silent child who didn’t say much but aspired to be a detective after watching a lot of detective TV shows and films. He and his younger brother would act out their favorite detectives all over the home. Hyun Bin had a rather ordinary life, save for the fact that he was regarded as extremely attractive, and in high school, one of his classmates suggested he attempt acting and join the school’s theater club.
There was no stopping him after he joined the theatrical group since he had finally found his vocation in life, and he would practice for hours at a time, perfecting his talents. Another significant event occurred during high school, when Hyun was riding his bike with a friend and a stranger shouted from the back, asking them to stop. They came to a halt, and he explained that he was a talent manager and that Hyun should call him back. This was sheer serendipity and luck, and Hyun just knew he was intended to be there, in the entertainment industry, and the hardest part was convincing his parents.
Hyun spoke with them, but they refused to allow their son to pursue a career that was so uncertain. They wanted him to have a secure career, and it took Hyun two years to persuade them. They recommended that he enroll at Chung-Ang University, which they considered was the ideal place for him to learn acting. Bin began by doing minor roles in undergraduate theater performances, but he gradually began acting and continued to hone his craft as time went on.
Hyun Bin- Relationship, Married Life
Hyun Bin has been in relationships with a number of actresses, the first of them was Hwang Ji-Hyun. They met on set in 2006 and began dating immediately away. He subsequently began dating Song Hye-Kyo in 2009, and just when the public began to believe the relationship was serious and could lead to marriage, the couple announced their split in 2011. Hyun has been in a relationship with actress Kang So-ra since 2016.
Hyun Bin- Professional Career
Following college came the difficult period of auditioning. He accomplished this and landed a role in the 2003 television series ‘Bodyguard,’ as well as several other minor roles. This young lad with amazing beauty and above-average acting abilities was gaining popularity among producers who catered primarily to teenagers. And, to capitalize on his boyish appeal, he has cast in the 2005 sitcom ‘My Name is Kim Sam Soon,’ which became a rage among Korean teenagers and Hyun became a sensation. Not only were his looks acclaimed, but so was his acting ability, which earned him his first prize in his career, the Top Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards.
Following the popularity of ‘My Name is Kim San Soon,’ followed the picture ‘A Millionaire’s First Love,’ which was not well welcomed by the box office or reviewers but went on to establish a cult following. The picture, which began as a romantic comedy but finished on the lines of tragic romance flicks, is still regarded as one of Hyun’s best works. Despite the film’s low performance, Hyun was already a huge Korean star at the time. The following television series, ‘The Snow Queen,’ was also a disaster, prompting Hyun to reconsider his choices, and he decided to do some solid dramatic roles in the TV series ‘The World that they Live in’ in 2008, and in the same year, his film ‘I am Happy,’ was selected to be featured in the highly regarded Busan International Film Festival.
Hyun’s image changed dramatically the following year when he played a psychopath in 2009’s ‘Friend, Our Legend.’ The film was a hit, and Hyun’s performance was praised in both national and international media. It was a remake, and Hyun reportedly watched the original film roughly 30 times to get into character. Hyun received a lot of praise for his work on the 2010 series ‘Secret Garden,’ and he did well in that year’s award ceremonies. For his outstanding performance, he got the SBS Drama Award and the Baeksang Arts Award. The series marked Hyun’s triumphant return to the romantic comedy genre, and he became much pickier about his jobs after that.
In 2011, Hyun appeared in three films, one of which was ‘Late Autumn,’ an English-language drama that was a remake of an older Korean film. The film was an international hit, breaking the record in China to become the highest-grossing Korean film of all time, a record it still holds. Hyun also had the opportunity to walk the red carpet at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, which he considers to be the best experience of his life. Hyun subsequently starred in ‘The Fatal Encounter,’ a historical drama that drew widespread criticism for its storyline and performances, and is today regarded as one of Hyun’s career’s biggest flops. The reaction continued in 2015, with the critical failure of the television series “Hyde, Jekyll, Me.”
He recovered from his terrible career by starring in 2017’s ‘Confidential Assignment,’ in which he played a North Korean detective. The film was a triumph in terms of both critical acclaim and box office profits.
Social Outings
Hyun Bin took six months off from acting to finish his necessary military training, and he enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 2011 as part of his 21-month mandatory military service. He performed excellently in what was recognized as the most rigorous service branch, and when he was discharged from his duty in December 2012, he won praise from the military for being an exemplary soldier.
Hyun has always been outspoken in her opposition to animal abuse, speaking out on a national and worldwide scale.
