In a recent interview with Esquire, Freddie Prinze Jr. discussed a range of topics. Prinze talked about his “frustrating” run-in with the Scooby-Doo writers on the pay drop. The “studio” allegedly pressured the I Know What You Did Last Summer actor to accept a pay cut.

Prinze claims that the Scooby-Doo (2002) cast members demanded pay increases after the movie’s commercial success. The producers persuaded Freddie Prinze Jr. to accept a pay cut rather than increase the wages of the other members of the core cast. According to quotes from the Scooby-Doo star in an interview with Esquire,

“Wait a minute, who is giving them the raise?” I recalled asking myself. “You or me?” After we made you three-quarters of a billion dollars, you can’t afford to pay them what I’m making on this. Ignore that.

Prinze added that after a dispute, the Scooby-Doo production company allegedly published his pay in a magazine. Harrison Ford, who played Scooby-Doo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, remembered how this alleged behavior by the producers nearly caused him to withdraw from the Scooby-Doo sequel:
