Host Of The Brit Awards 2023 Mo Gilligan Prepares To Perform

Mo Gilligan

Mo Gilligan hosted the Brits for the first time in 2018 and will do it once again in 2023. Glitz. Glamour. Criticism. It appears that no 2023 awards presentation would be complete without a dispute. However, what do you do as the host?

Saturday will be his second time hosting the Brits, and the ceremony has been criticized for its lack of female nominees for best artist.

According to Mo, it is up to the “powers that be” to determine who is nominated.

“My role is to moderate the proceedings, not to express my thoughts.

“I am impartial,” he declares.

In 2022, the Brits replaced the best male and best female categories with a single, gender-neutral category for the best artist award.

Mo is aware of the criticisms, and Newsbeat has not been the only outlet to inquire about them.

He also conducted an interview with BBC music correspondent Mark Savage, during which he stated:

“No one enters this industry with the mindset, “I must win this award and be nominated for that.”

“And the people who are watching it, the little children who say, “Oh, I want to be like Adele or Beyoncé or Sam Smith,” simply wish to emulate their idols.

This is mostly a musical event.

However, the 34-year-old, who frequently incorporates music into his performances, says he appreciates that artists are speaking out.

“Their voices are heard, and their ideas are considered,” he tells Newsbeat.

It’s great to be a member of musicians that use their platform to express their views on society and life.

Numerous shouting

It is safe to say that there will be many eyes on Mo when he takes the stage, regardless of any criticism.

And the comedian admits he would be lying if he said he wasn’t anxious before Saturday’s performance.

Mo declares,

“This is a momentous time for me and many many others.”

“I believe it’s nice to have some nerves; I think the day I don’t have any nerves is the day things become too routine.”

And how can the three-time Bafta-winning chat show host ease those pre-show nerves?

There is nothing that a shot of tequila cannot manage.

But what has he learned from hosting the first British team in 2022?

Mo thinks he will “likely be a bit more composed than last year,” when he was “quite vocal.”

“I was simply thrilled to be in front of 20,000 individuals. Everyone had returned, and it was almost as if there were a welcome-back show.

You may anticipate a bit more controlled anarchy on my part.

Mo claims that presenting the Brits for the second time has given him even more confidence in his ability.

“I’m also changing my outfit, so I’ll be wearing two different colors,” he tells Newsbeat.

“I’ve always noticed that during the most prestigious award ceremonies, someone is always changing suits.

“Last year, I lacked confidence in my ability to do it, but now I have one under my belt.”

Mo even divulged a few backstage “pampering room” secrets to Newsbeat.

“You can receive some pampering, such as a facial for instance.

You must make a reservation, but they have an entire room, it’s quite peaceful, and there is wonderful music.

Then, could Mo be seated next to Harry Styles while he has his nails done prior to their performance?

“Potentially, even my toes. Let’s not rule out the possibility of toes.”
