Henrik Stenson is a Swedish professional golfer who competes on both the PGA and European tours. He began playing golf at the age of 12 in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city. Later, he began competing in junior and amateur events. In 2006, a few years after he began playing professionally, he climbed to the top 20 of the Official Golf Ranking. He made the top ten the following year. In 2013, he won the FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour of the United States as well as the Race to Dubai on the European Tour. This made him the only player in history to win both in the same season.

He also became Sweden’s first male major champion when he won the 2016 Open Championship at Royal Troon. With a major championship record score of 264, he has not only been named European Tour Golfer of the Year twice but he has also been ranked in the top ten in the world for over 250 weeks. In 2014, he announced his investment in PGA Sweden National, his first foray into golf course ownership.

On April 5, 1976, Henrik Olof Stenson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. He began playing golf at a young age. Despite being left-handed, he trained to play like a right-handed player. He began competing in junior and amateur events as early as the early 1990s.   • Henrik Stenson began his professional career in 1999. The next year, he topped the money list on Europe’s second-tier golf tour. In 2001, he joined the main European tour, and the following year, he won the Benson & Hedges International Tour as well.
  • Stenson’s performance in the years that followed was outstanding. From 2005 to 2008, he finished each year in the top ten of the European Order of Merit. In 2006, he was ranked in the top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and the following year he was ranked in the top ten. In 2006, he also competed in the Ryder Cup.
  • He defeated Geoff Ogilvy in the final of the WGD Accenture Match Play Championships in 2007, becoming the first Swede to win a World Golf Championship. This triumph propelled him to the pinnacle of the European Order of Merit. He was also ranked fifth in the world at the time. It was the highest-ranking ever achieved by a male Swedish player.
  • His remarkable career continued as he won ‘The Players Championship’ on May 10th, 2009. With this victory, he reclaimed a fifth place in the Official World Golf Ranking.
  • During the 2011 season, he struggled a lot, and by the beginning of 2012, his ranking had dropped to 230. In April 2012, he competed in the Masters’ Tournament, where he led after the first round and finished with a quadruple-bogey on the par-4 18th hole, tying the Masters’ record for the highest score on that course ever.
  • During the 2013 season, he improved his performance with multiple triumphs and high—place finishes. He also finished second in the 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield. Despite his outstanding performance, he was defeated in the final round by Phil Mickelson. Nonetheless, this was Stenson’s greatest performance in a major competition. The following month, he competed in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, finishing runner-up and rising to 11th in the global rankings.
  • Stenson also fared admirably in the 2013 PGA Championship, finishing third. This propelled him up one spot in the world rankings, putting him back in the top 10. Stenson had a very fortunate year, as he also fared well in the 2013 FedEx Cup Playoffs and won the Deutsche Bank Championship by two strokes over Steve Stricker.
  • In September 2013, he won the Tour Championship at East Lake Gold Club as well as the FedEx Cup, propelling him to a career-high Official World Golf Ranking of fourth place.
