Moreover, Giancarlo once took a vacation from acting and travelled to Wilmington to talk about something he rarely discusses: mental illness in his family.
He told the audience at the Coastal Horizons Center’s annual luncheon that his mother suffered from mental illness and that he had to care for her since he was 17 years old.
He also stated that there is a stigma surrounding mental illness that needs to be broken. “That’s why I shared a personal story that I would not ordinarily share,” Esposito explained.
He also stated that he was no longer ashamed by it, as he advised others not to be.
“Education, communication, and compassion will change how we look at it and how we get better,” said the actor.
