Who is Verne Troyer?

Verne Jay Troyer was the third child born to manufacturing worker Susan and repairman Reuben Troyer on January 1, 1969, in Sturgis, Michigan.

He had two siblings called Deborah and Devon. His modest growth was attributed to cartilage-hair hypoplasia, a rare genetic disease, which led to his dwarfism when he was a baby. In 1987, he graduated from Centreville High School.

In 1994, Troyer made his debut in the movie business when, working with Little People of America, he acted as a stunt double in the family comedy “Baby’s Day Out.”

He continued in this line of work, making appearances in films including “Jingle All the Way” and “Dunston Checks In.” When Verne was chosen for the lead role in Kevin Tenney’s horror fantasy film “Pinocchio’s Revenge,” his on-screen acting career officially got underway.

He then made a brief appearance in the 1997 Oscar-winning sci-fi action comedy “Men in Black” before making an appearance in the comedy-drama “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” which is based on the same-named Hunter S. Thompson book (1998).

Verne Troyer’s acting career really took off in 1999 when he was cast in one of his most enduring parts, Mini-Me, in the Oscar-nominated action comedy “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” which starred Mike Myers in the title role.

He returned to the part in the 2002 follow-up film “Austin Powers in Goldmember.” Verne added a number of important roles to his acting resume throughout the 2000s by appearing in well-regarded films like the 2000 Oscar-winning family film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” the 2001 fantasy adventure film “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and the 2009 Oscar-nominated film “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.”

He also starred in the comedy “Convenience” in 2013 and was chosen to play the title part in the critically panned horror movie “Gnome Alone” in 2015. Additionally, he had a number of noteworthy cameos in TV shows like “Jack of All Trades,” “Boston Public,” and “Two and a Half Men.” On April 21, 2018, Verne Troyer, 49, died as a result of alcohol poisoning, which doctors later determined to be a suicide.
