Frederic Aspiras, A stylist, Earned An Oscar Nomination

Frederic Aspiras

Frederic Aspiras, a hairstylist, received an Oscar nomination. The stylist was nominated for an Academy Award for her contributions to the Gucci House. Aspiras did Lady Gaga’s hair and makeup for House of Gucci. In addition, he made history by being the second Asian-American to receive an Oscar nomination in the same category.

For those uninformed, the Academy developed this award in response to complaints that the makeup artists of The Elephant Man (1980) were not credited. After then, it became effective in 1981.

Frederic “Freddi” Aspiras was born to immigrant parents on July 13, 1976. In addition to being a stylist, he also creates wigs. Since 2009, the stylist based in San Francisco has collaborated with Gaga.

Since beginning her career as a hairstylist with Monster Ball in November 2009, Aspiras has worked on a variety of projects, commercials, music videos, and performances.

Since December 2018, Aspiras has been Joico’s Celebrity Guest Artist. Consequently, the artist has begun developing Lady Gaga’s appearances using the brand’s color, care, and fashion items. Kim Kimble for the first time introduced Frederic.

The stylist currently collaborates every day with Lady Gaga as part of Haus of Gaga. Frederic stated in a 2019 interview with Billboard that he stores all of Lady Gaga’s wigs in a warehouse in his New York studio. He said that Lady Gaga has a few of them as well.

Aspiras received the Guild Award in 2016 for his remarkable work on American Horror Story: Hotel, as well as the “Hairstylist of the Year” award from Fashion Los Angeles in 2019.

Depending on the desired appearance, style, and color, Frederic works with either real hair and wigs or hair extensions. Aspiras, who is of Vietnamese and Filipino descent, was also a BAFTA nominee.

He has collaborated with Gaga for thirteen years. Aspiras supervised the singer’s appearances on the Actors’ cover of Variety. During an interview with Variety, the artist spoke about the importance of being recognized for his work, stating:

“I began working with Lady Gaga thirteen years ago, and admirers from all over the world who have written to me saying they’ve become hairdressers – that’s one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done.” It is also about becoming a role model for my refugee Asian-American parents.”

Aspiras also stated that designing three decades’ worth of designs for the House of Gucci was one of the most challenging tasks he has ever encountered.

While working with Lady Gaga and fellow BAFTA nominee Sarah Tanno, his objective was to view Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani, as opposed to only imagining her. For House of Gucci, the artist created 52 distinct looks utilizing ten wigs.

Frederic Aspiras examined actual photographs of Patrizia, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, and even the “Dynasty” character Alexis Carrington from the 1980s. In order to mimic various appearances, he also studied other wealthy and fashionable women of the era.
