Dick Vitale revealed that in October 2021, he received a Lymphoma diagnosis. As a result of some symptoms, he had been undergoing testing, and doctors had confirmed it was lymphoma, Dick Vitale wrote in an essay that was published on ESPN on October 18 of the same year.

Before it, Vitale was battling skin cancer called melanoma. He notified the public that he had finally defeated the sickness in August 2021 after undergoing several procedures.

He added that doctors did not think the lymphoma diagnosis was connected to his melanoma.

The basketball sportscaster said in the same essay that doctors told him his condition has a 90% chance of being cured. Because of this, Vitale and his medical team decided to treat the cancer with steroids and chemotherapy for six months.

The announcer also demonstrated his spirit of resistance by promising to battle through the chemotherapy. Tony Colton passed away in July 2017, and Vitale wants to fulfill his pledge to him by coming back stronger than before.

The ESPN official also wanted to return and work even harder with his colleagues at The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The late basketball coach Jim Valvano and Dick Vitale were close friends. On December 6, as part of the Jimmy V Classic, Vitale was thrilled to be the game announcer for the Iowa-Duke game at the Mecca of College Basketball.
