Fessy began his career as a teacher and worked as a substitute until 2018. He had been a consistent athlete in high school and college and had initially hoped to continue his football career. However, he ruptured his ACL joint in his senior year of college and so missed out on a chance to play in the NFL. He then competed in Big Brother Season 20th in 2018, finishing in 9th place and remaining on the programme for a total of 72 days. His trip on the show garnered him a large number of followers and admirers.
